歌中所唱的Black and Tans指的是黑棕部队(英语：Black and Tans，爱尔兰语：Dúchrónaigh)，指皇家爱尔兰警队后备队(英语：Royal Irish Constabulary Reserve Force，爱尔兰语：Fórsa Chúltaca Chonstáblacht Ríoga na hÉireann)，是皇家爱尔兰警队部署的两支准军事部队之一，用于镇压爱尔兰共和军在爱尔兰发动的革命。这支部队因为抓不住IRA经常拿平民出气，在爱尔兰的名声很糟糕（具体可以看看电影《风吹麦浪》中英军的表现）
